George Cherepov was born in Lithuania. He studied in Dubrovnik and exhibited in central Europe in galleries and museums. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 and established himself in New England. He won many awards and had 10 one man shows at Grand Central Galleries in New York. In addition to instruction, he authored several books on oil painting.
A 2006 film, "Local Color" was based on Cherepov and his relationship with an apprentice in the 1970s.
He is know for his broad range of subjects, exceptional use of color and expressive painting style.
