The Cathedral of Monreale is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and construction began in the 11th century. The cloisters are amazingly well preserved and are a major destination for travelers in Sicily.

A photogravure is a photographic image produced by a laborious and expensive process using a copper plate and light sensitive gelatin tissue. The image is then etched into the plate in a series of chemical baths in ferric chloride to produce an intaligio print with amazing tonal depth. The process was developed in the late nineteenth century and was the preferred method of the time for producing large quantities of high quality art prints.
