Antique 19th century chromolithograph from the famous French design book L'Ornement Polychrome by August Racinet. A seminal work two decades in the making, it has served to inspire designers and decorators ever since. The lithographs feature lush color with beautiful metallic inks.

The print shows age toning typical for an antique print and has a few marks both inside and outside the mat window. It comes in a museum quality acid free mat.

Chromolithography is a form of lithography developed in the mid 19th century to replace hand colored prints. Printing involves the use of many lithographic stones (one for each color in the print). While laborious to produce, the technique was prized by artists and publishers for its ability to faithfully reproduce fine art.
Relatively rare in comparison to other prints, they were produced in volume only from the 1880s-19030s and fell out of use when modern methods of offset printing were developed.
