Antique black and white image of the famous trumeau column of St. Pierre's. This side of the column depicts the Romanesque sculpture of St. Paul.
The print is in excellent condition with no foxing, creases or tears. This work comes in a museum quality acid free mat.
A photogravure is a photographic image produced by a laborious and expensive process using a copper plate and light sensitive gelatin tissue. The image is then etched into the plate in a series of chemical baths in ferric chloride to produce an intaligio print with amazing tonal depth. The process was developed in the late nineteenth century and was the preferred method of the time for producing large quantities of high quality art prints.
